Getting There From Pisgah Domes
Pisgah Domes (185 Birds Nest Drive, Balsam Grove, NC 28708) sits just a short drive from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Drive down Shoal Creek Road to NC 215 and head north to reach the Parkway near Milepost ~423. Official route descriptions confirm that MP 423.2 connects to NC 215, leading downhill to Balsam Grove.
Expect a 15–25 minute drive depending on conditions — enjoy the winding climb as you rise from forested valley to high-elevation ridge.
Top Overlooks & Stops
• Graveyard Fields – MP 418.8
Start here for short waterfall hikes and wide-open mountain views, especially scenic in summer wildflower season and fall color peaks.
• Pounding Mill Overlook – MP ~413
Easy pull-off offering sweeping views of the Plott Balsams. Ideal for photos and a quick snack break.
• Mount Pisgah Area – MP 407–409
Well-known for dramatic ridge views and access to the Mount Pisgah Trail if you want to stretch your legs.
